Residents call for moratorium in rural Washtenaw County amid talk of upcoming data center

YORK TWP., MI — Residents of York Township have floated introducing a moratorium on data centers at a rumored upcoming site, although township leaders said they plan to wait on any formal action.

Steve Gilzow was one of 10 people who expressed concern Tuesday evening about how a data center may impact the York Township community, pointing to a strained electrical system, environmental impact and a plethora of unknowns.

“The DTE I have been living with is not equipped,” he said. “If it can’t service them, what’s our leftover electrical service going to look like?”…
