2 lawsuits tied to Ann Arbor school construction roll on into 2026

ANN ARBOR, MI – It could be a while before two lawsuits loosely tied to ongoing new construction projects with Ann Arbor Public Schools are resolved in court.

A nonprofit group supporting the Thurston Nature Center first launched a complaint against the district after construction began on the rebuild of the titular elementary school. The lawsuit, filed June 2, alleges AAPS violated Michigan’s Environmental Protections Act with construction activity that will “result in irreparable harm” to the beloved nature reserve.

Just over two months later, another lawsuit was filed by an HVAC contractor, contending delays in construction work and project mismanagement cost them close to $2.7 million in business claims against the district…
