Advocates race to reach tenants in condemned Ypsilanti housing as move-out deadline looms

YPSILANTI, MI – Some tenants at one Ypsilanti apartment complex have only days to decide how they’ll move out of their condemned units under a recent court order.

But first, organizers with the local tenants’ union and community groups want to make sure they reach everyone who’s impacted.

“Honestly, a lot of people didn’t even know their apartments were condemned in the first place,” said Nadia Calvert, a leadership member with the Arbor One Tenants Association and a resident of the complex since 2022. “It took a lot of (individuals) going out, telling them, ‘Hey, did you know?’”…
