City Council approves Packard Street housing development

The Ann Arbor City Council met in Larcom City Hall Monday evening to consider The Enclave of Ann Arbor development agreement, which aims to create 35 single-family condos on Packard Street between Eisenhower Parkway and Platt Road.

Resolution CA-9 presented the development agreement for 2857 Packard St., a plot of tree-covered land near Buhr Park and Mary Beth Doyle Park. In 2017, the council unanimously rejected a proposal from Peters Building Company to build a subdivision on this land, citing reservation about the removal of over 200 trees.

Peters Building Company sued the city over this decision in 2018, and the council approved a settlement in 2019 to allow a smaller development on the parcel while protecting some of the trees. However, the developers never secured funding to purchase or develop on the land, and the patch of trees remains today. Seven years later, new developers from Robertson Homes want to build on it…
