Ann Arbor hospital performs milestone heart procedure

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — A hospital near Ann Arbor completed a medical first for Michigan.

Trinity Health Ann Arbor has performed Michigan’s first implant of a defibrillation lead measuring just under 1.6 millimeters wide, making it the world’s smallest device designed to treat dangerous heart rhythm disorders.

The FDA-approved OmniaSecure defibrillation lead from Medtronic is a thin wire that connects an implantable cardioverter defibrillator to the heart.
