Family: Insurance company denies claim after crash because young kids weren’t on policy

CHELSEA, Mich. (WKRC) – A Michigan family is sharing its experience as a warning to others after an auto insurance claim was initially denied because their young children were not listed on their policy.

Kara Vogel and Carson Howatt were involved in a crash on Christmas Eve, WDIV reports, when another driver failed to yield at a roundabout, causing a collision that resulted in an estimated $5,000 to $15,000 in damage. No one was injured, including the couple’s two children, both under the age of 2, who were secured in car seats.

After reporting the crash, the family said GEICO informed them their claim could be affected because their children were not listed on the insurance policy…
