Michigan moms broke a record for placenta donations in 2025

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — As we begin a new year, Gift of Life Michigan is looking back on 2025 and celebrating some of its achievements from the previous year. For example, more than 1,200 organs were transplanted from Michigan donors in 2025, and there were more than 186,000 new donor registrations. There were also efforts made to educate even more potential donors.

But one milestone from last year involves a relatively new practice people might not be quite as familiar with. A record 1,416 placenta donations were made, marking the highest total since the program launched.

“In placenta donation, we’re speaking to mothers who are giving life. They’re giving birth to their babies, and they’re choosing to donate their placentas,” said Gift of Life Michigan president and CEO Dorrie Dils…
