Rural residents trying ways to halt OpenAI, Oracle data center south of Ann Arbor

SALINE TWP., MI — Riled up residents in Saline Township don’t think the massive 2.2-million-square-foot “Stargate” data center for ChatGPT creator OpenAI and tech giant Oracle is a foregone conclusion. Their opposition continues as preliminary site work is underway.

Some residents are trying different ways to stop the data center project by motioning to intervene in an already settled lawsuit, lodging complaints related to preliminary site construction work, and possibly gearing up to collect signatures.

Kathryn Haushalter, who lives on Willow Road near the data center site off West Michigan Avenue, is waiting to hear if a Washtenaw County judge will expedite her request to intervene in a lawsuit data center development firm Related Digital and property owners filed against the township last year…
