Ann Arbor completes Miller Avenue Improvements Project, adds two-way bikeways

The city of Ann Arbor completed theMiller Avenue Improvements Project Dec. 6, reopening the street to two-way traffic. The project included utility work and featured a new two-way protected bicycle corridor — replacing unprotected bike lanes on opposite sides of the street — on Miller Avenue, stretching from downtown North First Street to Maple Road. Work began in March 2025, shutting down portions of the street and causing TheRide bus detours.

The city added multiple two-way protected bike lanes in the past seven years, the first being on William Street. However, all prior two-way lane additions were built through the Downtown Development Authority, which is a unit of the city government. The new bike lanes are located outside the downtown area.
