FREEDOM TWP., MI — A sand and gravel mining firm has plans to extract millions of tons of materials in a rural community west of Ann Arbor.
Stone Co. of Michigan, also known as Michigan Paving and Materials, is requesting to mine off Pleasant Lake Road in Freedom Township, according to township documents. The firm has asked the township to renew a mineral extraction license that was first issued to Thompson-McCully more than 30 years ago for the site, located between Esch and Kothe roads.
