University of Michigan neurologists encourage protecting your ‘brain health’

MICHIGAN (WLUC) – A new report says the number of people in America who will develop dementia is set to double. More than seven million Americans have Alzheimer’s or a related cause of dementia.

A new report from the National Institutes of Health says the number of people who develop dementia each year will double by 2060. Some of the causes are genetic, but neurologists say there are changes you can make to protect your brain health and reduce your risk.

“Staying active, mentally, physically, socially, avoiding things like excess alcohol, cigarette smoking, avoiding head trauma, managing other health conditions that can impact our brain health like high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, those are all very important,” University of Michigan Health Neurologist, Dr. Judy Heidebrink, said…
