‘So messed up’: 100s of Ann Arbor high school students walk out in protest of ICE

ANN ARBOR, MI — For Rosie Meisler, “it was time to act” after the detention of four residents by federal immigration authorities in Ypsilanti and ongoing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions in Minneapolis.

“This is unacceptable,” Meisler, 16, junior at Community High School, said. “We saw it on the news, we’re seeing it in person and it’s time for us to act.”

Their anger with federal immigration authorities led to their organization of a walkout around 12:40 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Community High School, 401 N. Division St. Hundreds of students walked out of their classes and marched to the Federal Building, 200 E. Liberty St., to protest recent ICE actions…
