ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor’s parks department has unveiled a design concept for a new bridge crossing the Huron River from West Huron River Drive into the Barton Nature Area.
The city hosted a a virtual Zoom meeting Thursday night, Feb. 12, to discuss the potentially $5 million project to replace the current bridge the city says was built in 1991 and has reached the end of its useful life.
The new concrete-deck bridge would provide more room for pedestrians and cyclists with a usable clear width of 14 feet, compared to 8 feet with the current wooden bridge, said Hillary Hanzel, city landscape architect and project manager.
The design produced by OHM Advisors includes decorative stone elements and lookout spots, similar to a new bridge installed across the river at Gallup Park in 2024…
