Fire closes Burger King near Ypsilanti

YPSILANTI TWP., MI – A Burger King near Ypsilanti is closed after a fire spread into its ventilation system.

Crews responded around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, to the Burger King, 1073 Michigan Ave., for a report of a possible kitchen fire, said Capt. Scott Gehringer with the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department.

The fire at the restaurant had spread into the hood system, which is meant to help extinguish or control cooking fires, and continued to make its way into the chimney, Gehringer said. There was smoke in the kitchen when crews arrived, although the fire was primarily contained to the chimney…
