Explosion near Ypsilanti that injured 3 workers was ‘some type of gas incident’

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, MI – Investigators are focusing on a potential gas‑related cause after an explosion partially collapsed an Electronics For Imaging building in Ypsilanti Township on Wednesday afternoon, leaving three employees with significant injuries, officials said.

The blast appears to be connected to “some type of gas incident,” potentially involving a forklift moving materials, according to Ypsilanti Township Fire Chief Steven Densmore. He said that the exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Densmore said firefighters were dispatched around 3 p.m. to 1260 James L. Hart Parkway in Ypsilanti Township after several calls reported an explosion. Upon arrival, firefighters found the backside of the structure collapsed and the three injured employees entrapped just inside the building. All three were rescued with “significant injuries” and taken to a local hospital…
