See inside Hunã, the new tiki hideout below Echelon in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, MI – Downtown Ann Arbor’s newest hangout is a tiki-themed island escape tucked below the award-winning Echelon Kitchen and Bar.

Hunã, a 78-seat bar that leans into a tropical tiki theme, opened Friday, Feb. 13.

Echelon executive chef Joseph VanWagner, recently nominated for a regional James Beard Award, is crafting a playful, vibrant menu of Poké bowls, bao buns, Korean Galbi ribs and rum cake. VanWagner said the food menu maintains the high standards that put Echelon up for Best New Restaurant.

The basement bar’s interior was designed by Ann Arbor-based firm MOMUS Inc. It features sprawling booths, stone walls and a thatched-roof overhang above the 20-seat bar. A private lounge area features plush seating perfect for hosting events…
