Many social messages tell Black men and boys to “man up,” but that pressure can keep them from seeking the help they need, including mental health support. A new program in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor aims to change that.
Packard Health’s Healing Brothers United (HBU) program will offer mental health services tailored for local Black men. Services will include access to a Black male therapist, public workshops, and community events designed to make mental health support more approachable.
“I hear a lot of men say, ‘I got this. I can deal with this on my own,’” says Ypsilanti resident Justin Harper, an HBU ambassador. “But it’s okay to get help. You can’t just go around saying things are all right when they’re not.”…
