Free nutrition program helps Washtenaw County families cope with rising food costs

YPSILANTI, MI — The Washtenaw County Health Department in Ypsilanti is encouraging families to explore whether they qualify for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, which provides free nutritious food and support services to thousands of local residents, according to a March 3 press release.

The program serves anyone who meets income guidelines and is either pregnant or caring for a child under five years old. Families who qualify for Medicaid or SNAP are also likely eligible for WIC.
