Businesses keep leaving this Ann Arbor corner. New housing could finally see it thrive.

ANN ARBOR, MI — Hot pink signage indicates the past presence of Pizza Cat Max in Ann Arbor. It was the latest of five decades of swift departures at 640 Packard St.

A restaurant once filled with bright colors and neon lights that served Flaming Hot Cheetos pizzas turned into an empty building within six months of opening.

The pizzeria is just one of the many businesses that have attempted to remain long-term at the Packard Street corner near University of Michigan’s campus. In the last 53 years, at least a dozen businesses, including Big 10 Restaurant and Southside Grille, have come and gone at this corner…
