Lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility planned in Michigan

EGI Battery Inc. (EGI), a US-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer, announced plans to establish its first American battery manufacturing campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The facility is intended to support domestic production of lithium-ion pouch cells for applications including electric vehicles (EVs), electric aviation, aerospace systems, drones, and emerging robotics technologies.

Phase 1 production will include electrolyte filling, aging, sealing, folding, formation, and grading operations. The initial production line is designed for approximately one part per minute throughput, supporting up to 300,000 cells annually at full three-shift operation.

This corresponds to roughly 40 MWh of annual production capacity based on EGI’s NMC lithium-ion pouch cell platform with 35 Ah capacity…
