Doctors warn measles spread and vaccine resistance likely to worsen in Washtenaw County

ANN ARBOR, MI – With measles cases climbing in Washtenaw County, doctors say the virus—and the pushback against vaccination—is expected to worsen in the near future.

The seventh measle case in the county was reported Wednesday morning, this time an unvaccinated child who came in contact with an unvaccinated adult. The case comes amidst an outbreak in the county, as health officials are becoming increasingly concerned with the rise of the disease, particularly as vaccine rates drop across the county and the state.

Despite the outbreak, Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian – the Chief Medical Executive for the State of Michigan – thinks the vaccination rates will continue to decline in the near future and the measle outbreak will only continue to grow…
