A Saginaw woman has been charged with two felonies after police say she kept her malnourished sister-in-law locked in a basement for two years, collecting the victim’s disability payments and denying her food and water.

Woman faces felony charges for allegedly confining sister-in-law

Tasha T. Beamon, 48, appeared before Saginaw County District Judge David D. Hoffman on Monday, April 6, for arraignment on single counts of first-degree vulnerable adult abuse and unlawful imprisonment. Both charges carry maximum sentences of 15 years.

The case began March 15 when police responded to a vandalism complaint in the 1600 block of Gilbert Street. A resident called 911 to report a 58-year-old woman had broken a window and was trying to gain entry, later telling police she had been locked in the basement…
