University of Michigan researchers discover potential cause of preeclampsia

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Researchers at the University of Michigan say they have identified what appears to be a key driver of preeclampsia, a potentially life-threatening high blood pressure disorder that can develop during pregnancy.

The study points to a molecular factor called VGLL3, which the team found is elevated in placentas affected by preeclampsia. Researchers say the finding could help explain how the condition develops and open the door to new treatment and prevention strategies.
