Sentencing delayed for man convicted of killing Melvindale Cpl. Said

A man convicted of murdering a Melvindale police officer will learn his sentence on Friday, May 22.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Bridget Hathaway could give Michael Lopez up to life in prison. A jury found Lopez, 45, guilty on April 28 of first-degree murder in the 2024 shooting death of Cpl. Mohamed Said, 26. The jury also convicted Lopez of multiple drug and weapon charges.
