Ex-SWAT officer arrested after SWAT standoff outside his Fort Worth home, officials say

FORT WORTH, Texas — A former SWAT officer with the Mesquite Police Department was arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff, which started after he threatened a family member with a gun, officials said.

Officers responded around 8:20 p.m. on Friday, May 1, to a home in the 3800 block of Chisos Rim Trail and found that the victim was being threatened with a handgun, the Fort Worth Police Department said in a press release.

When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect, identified as Alexander Smith, shot a gun inside the residence, officials said. The Mesquite Police Department confirmed in a statement that Smith was employed as a police officer there from Nov. 2007 to Dec. 2018.
