North Texas fuel theft ring busted; 5 arrested in $10 million diesel skimming scheme, officials say

  • An organized crime ring in North Texas was dismantled by authorities after being caught installing payment card skimmers on diesel pumps and stealing fuel using stolen card information.

The Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center announced Tuesday it has dismantled an organized crime ring and arrested five people.

Authorities say the group was responsible for installing payment card skimmers on high-flow diesel pumps and using stolen card information to steal fuel from truck stops across North Texas.

The investigation was launched in April, when Garland Police said they received multiple reports of stolen fuel and card numbers. Authorities said they estimated theft was between 1,500 and 2,500 gallons of diesel per night, up to six nights a week.
