Dangerous flooding hits Dallas-Fort Worth today

This morning brought a difficult start for Dallas-Fort Worth commuters and travelers, with a flash flood warning and widespread flight disruptions hitting the region at the same time. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Dallas County along with parts of Collin and Denton counties, in effect until 10:45 a.m. A separate flood advisory covers Collin and Dallas counties through 10:30 a.m. Storms are dropping between 1 and 3 inches of rain per hour, overwhelming storm drains and sending water spilling onto roads and intersections across the Metroplex.

Flights grounded at DFW and Love Field

The storm’s reach extended well beyond area roads this morning. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for both Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field, holding all inbound flights at their origin cities. Dozens of delays and cancellations have already been logged at both airports, and officials warn that disruptions will likely cascade well into the afternoon.
