Damaging winds, severe storms could hit parts of Texas. Heres’ where

The National Weather Service (NWS) is monitoring several storm systems moving toward parts of Texas. Areas including the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area and San Antonio could be affected on Tuesday, July 7.

Forecasters say the northern parts of the state will see scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. The DFW area, Paris, Palestine, and other surrounding towns are among those at risk of storms turning strong to severe. Nine-to-fivers could see gray clouds roll in just before they hit the road for their evening commute.

The national weather agency says damaging winds, locally heavy rain, and frequent lightning will pose the greatest hazards. These conditions are most likely between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Meteorologists urge residents to be prepared to seek safe shelter, especially if they plan to spend time outdoors or boating on area lakes. Drivers should stay alert for wet roads and take a detour if their route is flooded.

“Boaters: stay alert, have a portable radio to receive alerts, and head to shore if skies threaten! Don’t be caught off guard by the strong winds,” the NWS wrote on its website.

There’s a 20% chance of rain after noon, and that likelihood persists through the evening, according to the NWS’s Fort Worth/Dallas office. Still, highs will be in the mid- to high-90s, so residents should stay hydrated.
