A man is expected to survive after being shot in the leg at an East Fort Worth apartment complex, and police have already booked a suspect on four felony charges tied to the shooting. Officers responded to the 900 block of Boca Hill Circle on Friday and found the victim with a gunshot wound before he was taken to a local hospital.
Police arrested at least one suspect in connection with the shooting, identified as 30-year-old Zantrell Walker, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Walker was booked into Fort Worth City Jail yesterday, facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault causing serious injury, evading detention, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, the newspaper reports.
Gang Unit Detectives Take Over the Case
Gang unit detectives are investigating the shooting, per the same account, a detail that points to police examining whether underlying group disputes or prior relationships played a role. The Fort Worth Police Department maintains a Gang Unit under its Special Operations and Investigations Bureau specifically tasked with gathering intelligence and investigating gang-involved violent crime, according to the department’s own description of the unit. The two aggravated assault charges Walker faces are second-degree felonies under Texas law, each punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and fines up to $10,000 when a deadly weapon is displayed or serious bodily injury results, according to Hindieh Law.
