America’s growth map is changing, and some of the places attracting the most attention aren’t the country’s traditional superstar cities.

Recent Census estimates show substantial population gains in fast-growing suburbs and midsized cities, particularly across Texas and the Southeast. At the same time, moving-company data and online home searches point to continued interest in communities offering some combination of employment opportunities, newer housing, warmer weather, outdoor access, and more space.

No single measure tells the whole story. Census estimates track actual population change, while Redfin search data reflects where prospective homebuyers are looking and moving-company rankings capture their own customers’ migration patterns.
