The Dallas-Fort Worth area already reached 88 degrees, beating the official forecast high of 85, and a few 90-degree days are now expected into early next week. Relief eventually arrives with rain chances by midweek, followed by a cold front late next week into next weekend.
DFW Already Running Warmer Than Forecast
On the latest warm day, DFW reached 88 degrees, even though the official forecast had called for a high of 85. Weather models have been running a few degrees too cool lately, a trend forecasters are now factoring into the outlook for the days ahead.
That small difference could mean the region reaches the 90s more easily than some models suggest.
High Pressure Building Overhead
The return of the heat is tied to a ridge of high pressure building in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere over North Texas. High pressure creates sinking air, which keeps skies clear and allows the sun to heat the ground more efficiently. It also blocks storm systems and cold fronts from moving into the area.
With this ridge in place, North Texas can expect plenty of sunshine and hot afternoons over the next several days.
