Man who ran over a Fort Worth police officer sentenced to life in prison

The man who ran down a Fort Worth police officer more than three years ago is going to prison for life.

In 2020, Fort Worth Police officer Matt Brazeal was throwing out stop sticks to flatten the tires of a car leading a high-speed chase when the driver swerved to run him over.

Officer Brazeal survived but has still not been able to return to full duty. Brazeal was dragged about 100 feet and has endured 60 surgeries.

Monday, a Tarrant County jury sentenced Ronnie Jackson to life in prison after finding him guilty of aggravated assault of a peace officer with a deadly weapon.

Brazeal says he still holds out hope he will fully recover and will be able to get off desk duty and back on the street.
