On Saturday, a 31-year-old man was hit by a train near the crossing on Fielder Road just south of Division. Thanks to the quick actions of first responders, he has survived the incident, though he is still hospitalized.
The accident happened at around 3 p.m. on Saturday. When police arrived, they found the man seriously injured and transported him to a nearby hospital with non-fatal injuries.
The train conductor told Arlington PD the man was walking on the railroad tracks when he was hit. It’s unclear at this time why he was on the tracks.
As a result of the collision, the train came to a stop, blocking north and southbound traffic on several main roads across Downtown Arlington.
Traffic was snarled for hours, with motorists looking for alternative roads to cross the tracks until around 6 p.m., when the investigation was complete, and the train was allowed to move again.
The Arlington Police Department wants to remind everyone that you should never walk on railroad tracks but instead use designated railroad crossings that alert you to approaching trains and when it’s safe to cross.
