A very wet, very cold suspect is now in Fort Worth police custody after jumping into the Trinity River to escape during a foot chase with police Monday morning.
Just past 5 a.m. a 9-1-1 caller reported seeing a masked man apparently trying to get past the gate at Luxia River East, an apartment complex along Belknap where it crosses the West Fork of the Trinity.
Police arrived to find the man trying to break into vehicles in the parking garage.
Before they could arrest him, the man ran off, heading toward the river and jumped in. But with temperatures in the 30s at the time it did not take long for him to emerge and give himself up.
Police say he will eventually be taken to jail and booked on burglary charges, but first he was taken to the hospital to get checked out, and warmed up.
