DALLAS (KDAF) — The Fort Worth Zoo took to Instagram to post a picture of one of their new members of the zoo, premature gorilla Jameela.
The baby gorilla was born four to six weeks early after zoo keepers say the mother Sekani, started “exhibiting signs of preeclampsia.”
Preeclampsia is a serious blood-pressure condition that can occur during pregnancy in both humans and primates.
For now, Jameela is recovering and being closely monitored by caretakers. Jameela is the third gorilla born four to six weeks early via emergency cesarean by the Zoo’s veterinary team, according to the zoo.
