Snack Recalled Across Texas Spurs Hospitalizations, Severe Illness

Gibson Farms recalled an unspecified amount of Organic Light Halves and Pieces shelled walnuts on April 30th due to the presence of E. Coli 0157:H7. E. coli O157:H7 . According to the United States Food and Drug Administration , the product was sold in bulk boxes and distributed to natural food and co-op stores in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Affected lot numbers include ” 3325-043 and 3341-501 with expiration dates 5/21/25 and 6/7/25.” Individuals infected with E. Coli 0157:H7. E. coli O157:H7 present symptoms such as diarrhea, bloody stool, and in serious cases, kidney failure, and death.

The CDC is currently investigating the recall and has recorded 12 illnesses in total. Seven of those 12 individuals were taken to the hospital as a result of consuming the recalled organic walnuts. Per the report: “Almost all sick people purchased organic walnuts from bulk bins in food co-ops or natural food stores in California and Washington.”
