Her legal team, supported by the ACLU of Texas and the Texas Civil Rights Project, has submitted a brief urging the state’s Highest Criminal Court to endorse the Court of Appeals’ decision to reverse her conviction. Mason faces up to five years in prison for illegal voting, though she argues she was unaware of her ineligibility. According to the ACLU of Texas, “For eight years, I have faced prison for simply trying to do my civic duty,” Crystal Mason said.
