Severe Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of Texas & Louisiana

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Posted South & Southwest of Dallas, Texas

3:52pm EST

Good afternoon everyone. As discussed this morning, we are seeing the forecast come to fruition in the form of very heavy showers and thunderstorms breaking out across parts of Texas and Louisiana.

Along the cold front itself, we are seeing embedded severe weather south and southwest of Dallas, Texas. These storms have had a history of strong winds, frequent lighting, torrential rain, and hail up to the size of quarters. Hail of that diameter is easily capable of damaging vehicles on the road or exposed without cover.

For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Ellis & Bosque county until 4:15pm CST. While these warnings are set to expire soon, we will see new warnings issued as these storms march off to the east, southeast, and northeast.

We are also seeing a heavy thunderstorm cell south of Shreveport, Louisiana. This is part of an individual cluster ahead of the cold front, and part of that feed of energy from the Gulf of Mexico. While this one doesn’t come with any particular warnings at this time, it is nearing severe thunderstorm parameters, with strong winds, hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain.
