State lawmaker from Southlake files bill to create a rulebook for the use of Artificial Intelligence

A state lawmaker from North Texas has filed a bill that would create a blueprint for using artificial intelligence in the state.

Southlake Republican Rep. Giovanni Capriglione filed HB 1709, calling it The Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act. He says in a statement this bill would establish a comprehensive framework for the ethical development, deployment, and oversight of AI technologies within Texas.

Some of the proposals in the bill include requiring companies to disclose if they’re using AI, as well as establish guidelines to prevent bias, discrimination or misuse, safeguarding personal data and promoting education and training
for an AI-driven economy.

He says the bill was crafted with input from industry, academics, advocacy groups and the public.
