Eight food establishments in Dallas failed health inspections due to violations including live flies and roaches, according to city data compiled by the Star-Telegram.
There were 594 restaurant inspections between Dec. 1 to Dec. 21.
Dallas uses a 100-point system in restaurant inspections. Scores of 100 to 90 are considered to be very good, and restaurant scores from 80 to 89 are considered to be good. Both require the next regular inspection to be in six months.
Restaurants scoring between 69 and 60 fail and require a follow-up inspection within 10 days or closure. During this inspection cycle no restaurant scored under 60.
Carnitas La Primera Meat Market at 8721 Lake June Road scored 60 with multiple health violations including expired food items, soiled utensils and employees who hadn’t completed an accredited food-handler course within the required time among others.
Desta Ethiopian at 12101 Greenville Ave., Suite 105, scored 62. Inspectors noted various health hazards including cross contamination, inadequate hand-washing practices by employees, expired food items and presence of roaches in the kitchen area.
