Monday marks anniversary of Capitol riot, at least 32 North Texans were charged

Monday marks four years since the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. At least 32 people from the Dallas-Fort Worth area were arrested for participating in the illegal activities around the event, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

While many North Texans initially joined demonstrations outside the Capitol to protest, some entered the restricted building where Congress was certifying the electoral college results. Others engaged in violent actions, including clashes with Capitol and D.C. Metro police.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently dismissed some obstruction charges related to the incident. Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump has promised to pardon some of those convicted.
