Northwest Texas Storm Watch: Severe Thunderstorms Bring Hail, Strong Winds from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Amarillo, Texas – Severe thunderstorms capable of producing golf ball-sized hail and 60 mph winds could impact the Amarillo area as early as 4 p.m. today, with the highest risk continuing into late evening. Storms are expected to become more widespread as they track from west to east across the Texas Panhandle.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Amarillo, isolated thunderstorms may first develop west of Amarillo near Dumas and Dalhart between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. A broader area, including Amarillo, Borger, and Pampa, is likely to see stronger storms between 7 p.m. and midnight. A slight risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather has been issued for most of the region.

Communities along I-40, including Vega, Claude, and Groom, should monitor conditions closely, especially during the evening commute. Potential hazards include hail up to 1.75 inches in diameter and damaging winds.
