When Abigail Vongor’s parents moved from Gilbert, Ariz., to Texas to be closer to her, her dad, Rick Floyd, gave up living near his siblings and friends. Although it was difficult, he was willing to make the move to be near his daughter and her family.
Despite the distance, Floyd kept in touch with his family and friends back in Arizona. So, when his 70th birthday rolled around this year, Vongor and her mom decided to surprise him by flying his loved ones to Texas for the celebration. Everyone was invited — college friends, old friends and new friends — and they gathered in Mansfield, Texas, to celebrate.
“He is constantly giving back to others, so everyone was more than willing to do the same for him,” Vongor, 25, tells PEOPLE.
While planning the surprise, Vongor, a registered nurse living in Dallas, says the hardest part was organizing everyone’s flights and arrival times to make sure they could keep her dad out of the house long enough for people to arrive.
