Arlington expands no pick-up or drop-off zones for rideshares and cars during special events in city’s entertainment district

ARLINGTON, Texas — The city of Arlington approved updates to its transportation ordinance in December 2024, expanding where rideshare and for-hire vehicles can’t pick up passengers during special events in the entertainment district.

What’s changing?

Tuesday night, the city council will review an amendment to further extend those pick-up and drop-off restrictions, while allowing the Arlington Entertainment Area Management District (AEAMD) trolley to continue to run along the auxiliary lane of Nolan Ryan Expressway during events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and Choctaw Stadium.

The amended ordinance now includes Nolan Ryan Expressway North and South as restricted areas for rideshare pick-ups and drop-offs during special events. A staff report says these changes reflect current operational plans and the need to provide the Arlington Police Department additional enforcement authority related to rideshare service violations, in addition to other parking violations.

Arlington Police told WFAA signage in the area has already been updated and expanded.

We have hotels. We have Texas Live. We have the National Medal of Honor Museum. We have a lot of other things in that area that attracts a lot of people to that area, which we certainly love, but again, at the same time we want to make sure that all those folks are staying safe and that we give them the most efficient way to get in and out of that area.”…
