Fort Worth father critically injured when truck collides with train, family says

A 65-year-old North Texas man is hospitalized in critical condition after his pickup truck collided with a train in Fort Worth on Father’s Day weekend, according to his family and police.

Ignacio Zapata is a family man who works in construction and “faces a long and challenging road to recovery” after the devastating accident, his daughter Idalia Zapata wrote on a GoFundMe page.

A Fort Worth police spokesperson said that the crash happened about 5:20 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of West Biddison Street and Ryan Avenue, in south Fort Worth. Ignacio Zapata was the only person in the truck, and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

“My dad is the heart of his family, a loving father, and grandfather,” his daughter wrote. “He has always been there for his loved ones and his community, offering a helping hand to anyone in need. Now, he needs our help. The medical expenses associated with his care are mounting, and our family is struggling to cope with the financial burden during this incredibly difficult time.”…
