Fort Worth’s usually placid morning commute was jolted last Thursday when a shooting occurred on a Trinity Railway Express train. According to FOX 4 News, police received a call around 11 a.m. about a shooting on a train headed for the Fort Worth Central Station. What unfolded was a dispute over a restroom between two men, which led to one of them, a man who uses a wheelchair, drawing a gun and firing it.
The confrontation escalated, and the handicapped individual in the wheelchair did have a gun; he shot, we believe, twice, striking the gentleman. But again, that’s still preliminary, Tracy Carter, a spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Police Department, stated. The victim was shot in the leg, sustaining potentially life-threatening injuries, and was transported to a local hospital. The suspected shooter was also taken into custody and subsequently hospitalized for reasons not disclosed.
In what was described as a secure mode of transport, this incident has raised questions and concerns. “It’s very safe usually to ride the train,” Anette Landeros, chief strategy officer of Trinity Metro, assured, labeling the event as unfortunate in a statement.
