Split-Second Heroism: Grand Prairie Woman’s Self-Defense Shooting Sparks DA Review

The predawn stillness of Sunday, July 13, was shattered in a quiet Grand Prairie neighborhood when a woman, fearing for her life, shot and killed a man who forced his way into her home. According to FOX 4 News, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:45 a.m. to a residence in the 1800 block of Avenue E, where they found an adult male suffering from a single gunshot wound; he was later pronounced dead by the Grand Prairie Fire Department.

Investigators, reviewing surveillance footage and witness statements, determined the man had a prior relationship with the resident. Detectives say he gained entry by forcing open a door and immediately began physically assaulting her. During the attack, the woman retrieved a legally owned handgun and fired one round, halting the assault and ending in his death. Paramedics transported the woman to a nearby hospital; she is expected to make a full recovery, according to NewsRadio 1080 KRLD.
