Alleged drunk driver charged after serious crash in Midland County

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A 21-year-old Grand Prairie man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly causing a crash while driving under the influence of alcohol Wednesday night. The incident resulted in one person seriously injured.

According to an arrest affidavit, the crash occurred around 8:49 p.m. on July 24 at the intersection of County Road 120 and Cotton Flat Road in Midland County. A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrived at the scene to find a white GMC Yukon off the roadway.

The driver, identified as Angel Noel Martinez Jr., admitted to speeding and said he was unable to stop at a stop sign due to faulty brakes, which led to a collision with another vehicle. While speaking with Martinez, troopers reported smelling alcohol on his breath. Martinez said he had consumed three Micheladas and had been drinking a BuzzBall alcoholic beverage before the crash.

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests showed multiple signs of intoxication and Martinez was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.

A witness at the scene reported seeing someone from the Yukon toss a firearm following the crash and authorities later located the weapon, along with an open container of alcohol nearby. Martinez claimed both the gun and the drink flew out of the vehicle during the crash…
