Fort Worth Man Sentenced to 17 Years for 2023 Memorial Day Murder of 15-Year-Old

FORT WORTH, TX – On Monday, July 28, 2025, a Tarrant County jury found 20-year-old Dwayne Gould guilty of Murder and sentenced him to 17 years in prison for the shooting death of 15-year-old Xavier Hullaby.

Gould, along with co-defendants Tedarius McGruder, Tyron Quinn, and a juvenile, was charged in connection with the May 29, 2023, killing. McGruder and the juvenile pled guilty and testified against Gould during trial. McGruder received a 17-year sentence; the juvenile was sentenced to 35 years in the Texas Juvenile Justice Division. Quinn’s case remains pending.

According to evidence presented at trial, Gould knocked on Hullaby’s apartment door and opened fire when the teen answered. Witnesses testified Gould had previously threatened to kill Hullaby, and following the murder, Gould and the others posed in photos with the guns used. One witness recounted Gould saying, “he died like I said he would.”…
