Clear the Shelters: Hurst Offers Free Pet Adoptions All August

This August, the Hurst Animal Services and Adoption Center is joining NBCUniversal Local’s nationwide “Clear the Shelters” campaign, a month-long initiative dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for animals in need. Since its launch in 2015, the campaign has helped over 1 million pets find their forever families.

From August 1–31, 2025, all adoption fees at the Hurst Animal Services & Adoption Center will be waived, making it easier than ever to welcome a new furry friend into your home. Every adoption includes spaying or neutering, up-to-date vaccinations, microchipping, monthly tick preventative, and heartworm/FELV/FIV testing. Adopting not only changes the life of the pet you bring home, but also frees up shelter space to help other animals in need.

In addition to adopting, the community can support the shelter through donations, which help provide essential medical care, food, and safe living environments. Items needed include:

  • Laundry soap (HE liquid)
  • Bleach
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Dog and cat food (dry/wet)
  • Non-scoopable cat litter
  • Collars, toys, and treats for cats and dogs
  • Kongs
  • New or gently used blankets and pet beds

The shelter also accepts monetary donations via debit/credit card, PayPal, phone, or their Amazon wish list. All contributions are tax-deductible…
